GENERAL UPDATE

Happy New Year! 🎇

We would like to wish you all a Happy New Year!🎆

It has been an unusual year to say the least for several different reasons, particularly the global COVID-19 pandemic. We want to remind you all to be proud for making it through the year and not to be tough on yourself if you didn’t achieve everything you planned. We’re looking forward to working with you in 2021 and supporting your continued success.

We know the holiday season can be particularly difficult and lonely, so please remember that the NGA community is here to support you. Whether its accountancy related or for personal support feel free to reach out to any of the team or our wider community within the WhatsApp group 😊. Additionally, CABA charity provides a wide range of free services and self-help resources. To access these, click here.

#BlackLivesMatter

To continue the discussion surrounding social justice, this month we would like to highlight the Strategist UK’s list of ‘101 Black-Owned, U.K.-Based Businesses to Support’. A direct and great way to support the Black community is to shop in their businesses, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. The Strategist have compiled a detailed directory of UK Black businesses from a range of sectors including home decor, beauty and many more.

PILLAR 2 UPDATE: NGA WhatsApp study group📚

No matter where you are in your studies you are welcome, drop us an email at newgenaccteam@gmail.com to join.

PILLAR 3 UPDATE: The Black Talent Charter launch🧾

The Black Talent Charter launched in October this year in response to the underrepresentation of Black professionals within finance and professional services. It aims to boost recruitment, career progression and promotion of Black talent in the finance and professional services sectors. Founded by barrister Harry Matovu QC and Michael Eboda, founder and CEO of Powerful Media, the Charter has already gained the approval of six firms including KPMG and PwC.

The Charter has also received support from the ICAEW who was the first professional body to sign the Charter. The ICAEW has committed to creating a five-year plan and establishing targets to improve equality of opportunity for Black professionals working for the Institute. In addition to this, the ICAEW have also launched a Black Members Community alongside other actions identified through focus groups held with black members over the summer.
